FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

Tai Chi's Impact on Lumbar & Cervical Pain + Recommended Class The effect of Tai Chi on lumbar (lower back) and cervical (neck) pain depends on your specific condition. Generally, if your symptoms are stable and not in an acute flare-up, Tai Chi can be a good option—with proper technique and intensity. Why Tai Chi May Be Suitable 1. Movement Characteristics Tai Chi features slow, gentle movements that focus on core (waist and abdomen) strength and continuous spinal mobility. This helps: Strengthen muscles in the lower back and neck Improve local blood circulation Relieve muscle tension 2. Posture Requirements Tai Chi emphasizes "upright and centered posture," which helps correct poor daily postures (e.g., hunching from prolonged sitting) and supports the natural curvature of the spine. When to Proceed with Caution 1. Acute Flare-Up Phase If you are experiencing severe pain or limited mobility (e.g., difficulty bending over or turning your head), prioritize rest and medical consultation first. Avoid practicing Tai Chi, as improper movements may worsen injuries. 2. Specific Conditions For severe issues like severe lumbar disc herniation or cervical instability, practice only under the guidance of a doctor or physical therapist. Choose simplified movements and avoid 招式 (moves) involving excessive bending or twisting. Recommendations 1. For Beginners Opt for small-group private sessions with experienced, professional instructors. They will teach you correct force application and posture to avoid worsening discomfort from wrong movements (e.g., over-bending, neck forward tilt). 2. Progress Gradually Practice step by step, stopping at the point where your body feels no pain. Pause and adjust immediately if you experience discomfort. In summary, when your physical condition allows and with proper technique, Tai Chi can help relieve lumbar and cervical discomfort—but always adapt based on your personal situation. Recommended Class: Adult Health-Preserving Tai Chi (Small Private Group)
